CSIRO Glasshouses Waterproofing
Project Overview
Scope of Works
PMG Projects was engaged to deliver a specialist waterproofing and protective coating system to the floors and walls of the CSIRO Glasshouses at the Black Mountain campus in Canberra. These highly controlled research environments require durable, seamless finishes capable of withstanding constant moisture exposure, regular cleaning, and long-term UV exposure while maintaining a professional appearance.
The CSIRO Black Mountain campus is home to internationally significant plant research facilities, including its renowned glasshouses and controlled-environment growing spaces, making quality, durability and attention to detail essential throughout the project.

To ensure long-term adhesion and moisture resistance, a high-performance epoxy primer (Civilox LV100) was applied to both floors and walls. Cracks, surface deviations and junctions were then repaired and detailed using an epoxy repair systems to create a sound substrate prior to waterproofing.

A seamless Elaston W80 Polyurea waterproof membrane was applied at a minimum thickness of 2mm, providing a highly durable, flexible waterproofing system designed for demanding commercial environments. To improve safety under wet conditions, a non-slip finish was achieved using Opalon S30 and Renderfill F300 before a final decorative UV-stable Opalon S30 topcoat was applied in the client's selected colour.

The completed system delivers a robust waterproof barrier with excellent chemical resistance, abrasion resistance and UV stability, ensuring the glasshouse floors and walls are protected for years to come while meeting the functional requirements of a world-class scientific research facility.
